TRAINING…managing employee development

Your organization's training efforts have an important place in the HRM2001 Series. Detailed information about training courses and individual classes can be tracked, along with employee enrollment. When employees complete training courses, their skills information can be updated automatically. This can help you understand the real value of individual employees to your organization - the investment your company has made in them, and the cost your company will incur if you have to replace them.

Among the responsibilities of the HR practitioner is to ensure that employees are equiped  with the requisite knowledge and skills to meet the organization’s objectives. With integration to the Appraisal and Succession Planning modules, the Training module provides the facilities to track and report on all related issues, including:

TRAINING NEEDS

Proactively determining training needs - which employees require training for future training courses

Identifying the source used to determine the recommended training (Appraisal, Succession Planning or Other)

Maintaining a list of employees that may be actually enrolled for such training when the final decision has been made and including

notes or comments as required

TRAINING BUDGET

Maintain a training budget for the appropriate fiscal period

Track budgeted and actual expenditure by Branch, Department or Section

Provide controls that monitor training budget vs. expenditure at each level

COURSE SCHEDULES

Maintain a list of scheduled training courses for the organization

Maintain a list of institutions that will provide external training

Identify scheduled courses by type (internal, external - local, and external - foreign)

Track course start and end dates

Track course cost per employee and number of employees scheduled to attend

COURSE COMPONENTS

Provide details on course modules or components

Track module start and end dates and time of day scheduled

Maintain contact hours

Maintain information on module presenters

COST DETAILS

Maintain cost information by course module or component

Track complete cost element details (lunch, refreshments, course materials, presenter fees, airfare, etc.)

Assign cost to employee's home department or other cost centre as appropriate

Book date of expenditure, final costs per employee and number of employees

ENROLLMENT

Enroll group of employees or individually from the Training Needs list

Enroll group of employees or individually from Employee File

Allocate employee contribution to course cost if applicable

Maintain contract or bond details if applicable

RESULTS

The employee's performance is captured at the course component level. It indicates the employee's score attained.  It also provides for the employee to assess the course and for comments to be entered.

The Training module also maintains information on employees who after being enrolled to attend a course are subsequently absent for the entire course or component or part thereof.

All the above and much more!
